In Robert S. S. Baden-Powell's 1908 book "Scouting For Boys" he introduced badges for achievement. The highest available
was the Wolf Badge. It is said that Baden-Powell got the idea of awards from the American naturalist Ernest Thompson
Seton, who passed along ideas from his book "Red Indian Boy Scouts of America."
Persistent requests to recognize the American Eagle resulted in the renaming of the highest rank for the United States
to Eagle in 1912.
